IOH at a glance

The Institute of Occupational Health (IOH), the first institute of occupational health in Nepal is a non profit research and advisory institute whose main tasks are promotion of occupational health and hygiene, research in the field of occupational health and hygiene, training of employees, provision of advisory services and dissemination of information.

The Institutes professional staff includes scientists with experience in occupational medicine, industrial hygiene, chemistry, toxicology, physiology, psychology, sociology etc.

The Institute collaborates with government and private agencies, workers and employers organizations and general population.

Through cooperation in research and service at national and international levels the Institute contributes to the advancement of knowledge of health risks in working life.

OBJECTIVES:

Promote public and professional awareness, good practice and standards
Create knowledge about the connection between work, illness, and health
Monitor occupational health factors, evaluate risk factors, and suggest preventive measures
Examination, diagnosis and treatment of patients with possible work-related illnesses and diseases

SERVICES:

Consultation on relationship between working practices and health
Short-term trainings to employees from different organizations, training of occupational health staff and other specialists
Examination and diagnosis of patients with possible work-related illnesses and diseases with concomitant investigation of the working environment if necessary
Pre-employment health check up of the employees from the point of view of a particular occupation
Periodical health check up of the employees in risk of getting occupational diseases and illnesses
Analysis of different pollution in the working atmosphere and explanation of their effect on the human organism  

OTHER ACTIVITIES:

To provide a forum for discussion on any issues related to occupational health and safety.

To organize conferences, seminars, training or similar events concerning issues of occupational safety and health at national and international levels and participate in various similar and relevant programme.

Publication, collection and dissemination of informative materials, journals, training materials, books and articles on occupational safety, health and related topics

Conduct advisory service and support to government and private agencies, workers and employers organizations and general population in the field of occupational safety and health.

FUTURE PLAN:

Teaching of undergraduate and postgraduate students and supervise postgraduate studies in collaboration with different Universities.
